This week I am going to showcase our Princess Carriage beds as they seem to be ever increasingly popular. When I was first asked to design a carriage bed I looked around at what other types were available and was surprised at how flimsy they all looked, I knew I could design something much more structural and with more intricate detail.
I took inspiration from fairy tale films and one thing in particular that inspired me was the set design of various scenes in the film Lord of the Rings, I loved the swirls and leaf like shapes used by the production team when creating the elven architecture and tried to incorporate some of that in my carriage. The first carriage we made didnt really differ too much from that first sketch.
Not long after we took an order for another from a lady that was an eye surgeon, her brief was quite specific and she wanted us to include a series of dowels in the domed ceiling so that she could fit a scrunched voil in the roof. She also planned to encrust the wheels and a crown centre piece with faux jewels for that pretty princess look (a very time consuming job that must have required some very dexterous hands, something she was blessed with due to her occupation). .
Another addition to this design was the bench seat at the front of the bed which was upholstered in a pink crushed velvet with jewel buttons. It also featured a drawer above the step.
This seems to be a popular layout for a carriage design and now every carriage features the bench seat with upholstered cushion and gas stays as standard. With the new CNC machine that Dreamcraft invested in last year we are now able to further increase the level of detail included and recent carriage beds feature intricate routing throughout.
In addition to the original design there is now an option that features a large heart shaped opening with engraved hearts in place of the swirly patterns.
This latest version also featured pink remote controlled led lights in a trunking in the ceiling.
This week has seen another development for our carriages with the latest brief requesting different wheels and colours, be sure to look out for the finished pics.
This week we get to see the reveal of the beautiful new style royal blue and white princess carriage. This is a real head turning, magical design.
